cyclone gene

Monday the 28 january was quite an exciting day. In the morning we where still considering to go diving. Just after nine after reviewing the cyclon warning center forcast, that was cancelled and the dive boat was brought to kuwukakuwu into the mangroves to be hidden from the winds.

From middday on winds where very strong and gusts where destructive.

Here are some pictures taken during the storm.

Ovalau

Few days before cyclone "Gene" moved through Fiji, I was diving under the Levuka wharf. I found three differnt species ghost pipefish. One of them was this unussual one, first time for me to see this kind, has somebody got a name for it? Here is a picture.

The wharf is allways spectacular when it comes to strange creatures. There are all sorts of different species lionfishes, scorpionfishes, nudibranches, shrimps...

I also found this large frogfish.
